Transcript – Researchers at Kyoto University in Japan have unveiled an AI robot designed to offer spiritual advice and assist with religious rituals. Nicknamed Buddharoid, the humanoid has been trained on complex Buddhist strict scriptures and can respond to sensitive personal questions. Developed by Professor Sai Kumari, the project combines advanced language models with a Unitree G1 robot. The university says the innovation could help address Japan’s aging population and labor shortages while also prompting ethical debates about the role of AI in religious life.
