http://theresurgence.com/series/5-hard-truths-for-planters
Summarized from a series by Dustin Neeley on The Resurgence.
Truth 1: Be resilient
- Recognizes that God commands it (2 Tim 4:5)
- Learn to take a punch
- Consider the examples of those who have gone before (Heb 11)
Truth 2: Be yourself
Unredemptive comparison is dangerous on several levels
- It causes us to undervalue what God is doing
- It opens the door for greater discouragement
- It can lead us to have unrealistic expectations
- It reveals our deeper idolatry
When you are tempted to compare yourself to someone else or their ministry
- Praise God for what He is doing there
- Allow it to expose your idolatry for what it is
- Preach the gospel to yourself
Truth 3: Think hybrid
- Read and listen widely
- Befriend someone from another ‘tribe’
- Be humble and learn from others
Truth 4: Kill your stress
- Live your Bible
- Listen to your body
- Listen to your wife and kids
- Learn your limits
Truth 5: Lead your family well
- The church can get another pastor, but your kids can’t get another dad
- The church can get another pastor, but your wife only has one husband – and she needs a good one
- A day off is not just a good idea – it is essential
I have a question about the Church in Singapore. What is the relationship between Sadhu Sundar Selvaraj and Joseph Prince? Do they have a relationship? I live in the USA and have been VERY blessed by Sundar's teaching “The art of waiting on God”. Yesterday my Dad gave me a CD by Joseph Prince and I was really wondering if they support each others positions or if there is conflict of views? I don't know much about Joseph Prince but I have sure appreciated his message of Grace! Praise the Lord! Let me know if you have any insight articles or references. Shalom
Dear JT,
Not sure how your comment links to church-planting, which was the entry you posted under. I'm not too familiar with Sadhu Sundar Selvaraj's teaching or ministry. Perhaps you might want to check with New Creation Church which is the church that Ps Joseph Prince pastors. God bless!
