Saturday, 24th January 2026 marks the International Day of Education by the UN & UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific, & Cultural Organization). Today, 250 million children & adolescents are out of school & 763 million adults are illiterate, according to UNESCO. The theme this year is the “Power of youth in co-creating education.”
Youth make up more than half of the global population & are a powerful engine for innovation, social change & sustainable development. Yet many still face persistent barriers that hold them back from shaping the future they want – from poverty & inequality to limited access to quality education & decent work.
Their annual Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report examines the requirements, visions, practices, & impact of factors on effective educational leadership.
